Flash Memory Summit 2019 Recap: Proud to be PCI-SIG®
By Al Yanes, PCI-SIG President and Chairman
Earlier this month, I attended another eventful Flash Memory Summit (FMS) and I am pleased to say that PCI Express® (PCIe®) was around every corner at this year’s event. With over 60 member companies displaying their PCI-SIG pride with member signs in the exhibit hall, a PCI-SIG sponsored presentation and our own booth featuring a PCI Express Technology Showcase, we showed how much PCIe technology is shaping the present and future flash storage industry.
PCIe Technology in Storage Presentation
In the spirit of learning more about PCIe technology, PCI-SIG Board Member, Debendra Das Sharma, shared his insights during a presentation on “The New Generation of Storage: From PCI Express 4.0 to PCI Express 6.0.” This presentation covered the adoption of the PCIe 4.0 architecture in a variety of technologies, discussed the rollout of the PCIe 5.0 specification, and included an update on the PCIe 6.0 specification development. If you were unable to attend, you can review the presentation slides on the FMS website.
On the Show Floor
Touring the exhibit hall, it was clear that PCIe 4.0 and 5.0 specifications have been seamlessly woven into a wide array of storage technologies. We even hosted a PCI Express Technology Showcase at the PCI-SIG booth with 27 PCIe-enabled products from 20 member companies displayed.
I also participated in a video interview with G2M Research live on the show floor where I discussed the impact of PCIe on storage. I invite you to watch the full presentation on YouTube. As always, FMS was a great venue to explore the development of different technologies and to demonstrate the growth of PCIe adoption.
With new specifications like the recently announced PCIe 6.0 architecture coming down the pipeline and PCIe 4.0 technology arriving on the market, the future is looking bright for PCI-SIG. If you want to help us shape this future, you can learn how to become a member of PCI-SIG today.
