PCI-SIG® in 2022: A Year to Celebrate

By Mihaela Erler and Scott Knowlton, PCI-SIG MWG Co-Chairs

Every year, we enjoy looking back and reflecting on all we have accomplished as an organization and community. After surviving the challenges of the previous two years, we cautiously started 2022 hoping for the best. Fortunately, even though this year offered its own uncertainties, we are pleased to share that PCI-SIG® has had another productive year. We made significant technical progress, launched new programs, and made a return to in-person events to just highlight a few.

A fun and proud moment of celebration this year was the PCI-SIG’s 30th anniversary of innovation. Here’s a glimpse at a few of the highlights from the past year:

  1. PCI-SIG released the PCIe 6.0 specification. The PCI Express® (PCIe®) 6.0 specification doubles the bandwidth and power efficiency of the PCIe 5.0 specification (32 GT/s), while continuing to meet industry demand for a high-speed, low latency interconnect. PCIe 6.0 technology is the cost-effective and scalable interconnect solution for data-intensive markets like Data Centers, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, HPC, Automotive, IoT, and Military/Aerospace. Review the PCIe 6.0 specification resource page to see all of the educational materials such as webinars, blogs, a link for members to download the spec and more.
  2. We announced the plan to develop the PCIe 7.0 specification by 2025 at the PCI-SIG Developers Conference 2022. The PCIe 7.0 specification is targeted to reach a data  rate of 128 GT/s, doubling the data rate of the PCIe 6.0 specification. Learn more about the PCIe 7.0 technology and view recent blogs, FAQ and more.
  3. The PCIe 5.0 specification compliance program has been launch with 51 products on the Integrators List. 2022 has marked a return to in-person compliance workshops and we look forward to returning to Taipei for international compliance testing in 2023.
  4. PCI-SIG shared the latest specification updates during several industry events like the Flash Memory Summit, SC22, Drive World Conference, the Design Automation Conference (DAC) and others. You can view a list of upcoming events here.
  5. PCI-SIG traveled around the world to international DevCons in South Korea, Japan, Israel and Europe, and will be traveling to Taiwan in 2023. We also unveiled the new Chairperson Award winners, David Harriman, Debendra Das Sharma and Richard Solomon on the PCI-SIG blog.
  6. We have introduced the PCI-SIG talking head videos. Watch these videos to get detailed information on what PCI-SIG has to offer, including information on the PCIe 6.0 specification, features overviews and membership information.
  7. PCI-SIG celebrated its 30th anniversary of innovation this year. Watch the webinar to learn how PCI-SIG has spent three decades developing cutting-edge technology through PCI specifications.

2022 has marked a return to normalcy and we continue to be amazed by the dedication and willingness of the PCI-SIG community to go above and beyond to continue the growth and advancement of PCIe technology. We wish you Happy Holidays and we look forward to an exciting 2023!
